BEHIND THE SCENES
Marcus Denard Johnson is an actor, director, acting coach and facilitator residing in New York City.
Marcus was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduating from North Atlanta High School of the Performing Arts in 2001, Marcus pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from Morehouse College in Atlanta. While at Morehouse, Marcus had the pleasure and honor of working with notable directorial talent, such as Kent Gash and Kenny Leon.
After graduation in 2005, Marcus packed everything he had into his small SUV and moved to Sarasota, Florida to attend the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. As a student at the Asolo Conservatory, Marcus had the opportunity to workshop with the Roy Heart Theater, director KJ Sanchez, and notable Voice and Shakespeare expert Patsy Rodenburg at the Florida State University London Study Center, to name a few.
After graduating from the Asolo Conservatory in 2008, Marcus decided to move to New York City to pursue acting. Since then, Marcus has become a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and has been an emerging face in the New York theatre scene for the past 9 years, with a bulk of his work stemming from the works of Shakespeare. He is currently in his second year as a resident company member of TITAN Theatre Company and a proud member
Marcus has worked as an Arts Educator in NYC for over 10 years, gaining extensive experience in devising and directing. As Assoc. Program Director for Opening Act, Marcus has directed Opening Act's Student Leadership Company in 6 original productions, 3 readings, and an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew. He made his regional directorial debut with The Wiz at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre in 2018 and returned in 2019 with truth: The Testimonial of Sojourner Truth. In February of 2020, Marcus made is NYC directorial debut with The African Company Presents: Richard III with Titan Theatre Company.
